Research

Having worked with Enterococcus hirae and Lactococcus lactis for many years, I provides expertise on all aspects of the work with these bacteria, including cultivation, electroporation, membrane or protein isolation, etc. I also support our PhD students in technical aspects of molecular biology and biochemistry and try to keep the lab in good working condition.
My work entails the large scale purification of proteins involved in copper homeostasis in Enterococcus hirae or Lactococcus lactis for structural work, the cloning of copper homeostatic genes, and miscellaneous molecular biology and biochemistry projects.

Services

Helicobacter pilory is a causative agent of gastric ulcers. This bacterium can be assayed in the stomach by means of its urease activity. For this, patients ingest 13C-urea, which is converted to 13CO2 by the urease. I run 13C mass spectrometry to measure the 13CO2 exhaled by patients.
